How do I clean the salad to make sure it is hygienic?

A.

Some people prefer to simply rinse lettuce under running water. Others may soak lettuce leaves in a bowl of cold water. Both are good methods. Just do not leave the salad leaves standing in water for long as some of the vitamins will also get washed away. We recommend that you wash your salad with filtered water (water). Some people even go further and use potassium permanganate to sterilize the salad leaves.

How long can we store the salad?

A. The duration that a lettuce can be stored depends on how (cold) you store it and how you store it. It can be kept in the fridge for almost a week at between 3 and 7 degrees Celsius in a plastic bag. Make sure the bag does not touch the freezing part in the fridge as when salad freezes, it goes bad.

Can we buy your salad in any store?

A.

Yes, you can purchase from our distribution centre in Wadgaonsheri Monday through Saturday from 8am to 6pm. The address is S. No. 21/2/1 Gurudev Building, Shop no. 1 – 4, Sainik Wadi, near “Christ the King” Church, Wadgaonsheri, Pune 411 014.

A. We are delighted to welcome you to visit our farm in Sasvad! Please send us an email to FarmTour@GreenTokri.com with details like number of adults and children interested to join. And we will keep you posted about our next farm tour. As soon as we know your details we will be very happy to deliver your entrance passes to your home.

Is your salad organic?

A. We can’t say our salad is organic as 1) we use seeds that are treated with fungicide, 2) we also use inorganic fertilizer as using organic manure like cow dung on a vegetable which has to be eaten raw would be dangerous for health 3) being organic would mean that the whole area around us, the neighbouring farms should be organic too 4) if we would NOT use fertilizer and once in a while also pesticides, we would have NO crop at all as around us the fields (if there are any) are barren and the bugs prefer to come to our green oasis. We do use a mixture of organic and mineral fertilizers and grow in a way that our fields maintain and renew their fertility. We use our own well-water which was tested for minerals and heavy metals which is very clean.  We grow our own saplings in a nursery on Vermiculture compost.  We do manual de-weeding and do not use chemicals for regular weed eradication.

Can I get what I want in the full head bag?

A. As of now we are offering a standard bag with an assortment of lettuces we chose for you. They are freshly harvested from our farms and we try to put one red and one green variety. One of the varieties will be smooth, the other crunchy. Usually it is one Oak Leaf and one Iceberg. The bag (minimum 500g) contains one complimentary herb also. We do offer individual heads of iceberg and other varieties of lettuce when they are available.

Can I take only herbs?

A. Yes, we have many types of herbs that are grown at the farm and available weekly-rucola, basil, parsley, oregano, thyme, sage, garlic chives, lemongrass, cress, celery and others. We do include a few bundles of herbs as a bonus in the standard full head lettuce bag.

How do we know for sure that everything we ordered will be delivered?

A. We at GreenTokri try our best to get everything that was ordered delivered to you. Since our fresh vegetables are agricultural products there might not be enough in stock for every order. Sometimes the goods may get damaged in transit and we don’t deliver them to the customers. Our communication to the customer is that the product is not in stock, and therefore not able to deliver.

Can you tell me what time the delivery officer will be at my home?

A. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly when he will be at your home. Though our delivery officer will try to visit your area around the same time every week, it is driven by various factors, such as delivery volumes, traffic conditions and power outage. When you place an order, you will receive your driver’s name and number so you can contact him if needed.

Why did the driver not deliver to me yesterday?

A.

The delivery to your home may not have happened due to several reasons:

  • We did not receive your order or it was received too late for delivery. You should always receive a confirmation email once we place your order.
  • There was no one at home. Our delivery officers are instructed to call you if they do not find anyone at home. If they are unable to get through to you they will leave a note on your door giving the time of their visit and the reason why they were unable to leave the salad for you.

What if I’m not home during the day?

A.  Many customers have enjoyed the convenience of making advanced payments. The customer with an advanced payment does not have to be home for delivery. We simply leave the bag at the door.

Why are you using so much plastic? Can we recycle the plastic?

A. GreenTokri believes in being as environmentally sensitive as possible. We are aware of the issue of using plastic bags and are exploring suitable eco sensitive alternatives to these. We need a solution that would keep the lettuce moist and fresh until it reaches our clients. We would greatly appreciate any ideas you may have about this!

A. Presently, no. We have scheduled daily routes to particular areas of the city.

What is the minimum order for delivery and are there any delivery charges?

A. The minimum order for FREE delivery is only Rs.150. If your order is below that, then there is a   Rs.40 delivery charge applied. (w.e.f 2nd July 2016)

A. Here at GreenTokri, our policy is that we will replace any product for free that does not meet your standards.
